About IaYoS

I’m Dale.

I’m Australian, and I’m lost, so I currently live in Finland. I generally look angrier than I actually am, but that’s because I smile upside down, so if you see me in the street, feel free to say hello.

My favourite activities and topics include motorcycles (past treasures include a Suzuki Across, Honda Fireblade 900RR, and a 2008 HD Fatboy that I am shamefully in love with), rock-climbing, strong opinions, beer, C#, stackoverflow.com and ServiceStack, strength training (the theory, at least), composing fundamentals-based equity investment strategies, debating religion, economics & politics and the relative strengths of characters from the Marvel Universe, beer, Crossfit, travelling too often and saving too little, cheeky pierced girls with tattoos, scuba diving, mathematics, decent scotch on ice or Bundaberg Rum with Coke, reading too much and futilely trying to assimilate the collective wisdoms into my own personal philosophy, European heavy/prog metal, singing embarrassing karaoke, patient friends (and family – Hi Mum, can I borrow some cash?), mangling poorly spoken second languages (currently some mediocre Spanish and beginning to learn Finnish)… oh, and beer.

So, why “in a year or so”?

Because I believe that all things can be improved upon – be they relationships, financial freedom, attitudes, mindsets, bodies, code…

Because I want to remind myself that meaningful improvement will take focus, clarity, dedication, effort, usually money, and almost always, time…

Because I want to be mindful enough to want and plan for those improvements, wise enough to know that progress is often invisible to the casual daily observer, disciplined enough to trust in the processes, and finally, patient enough to know that when I look back – you know, in a year or so – I’ll be harder, better, stronger, faster, wiser, prettier, happier, taller…

And because I thought I’d invite you along for the ride.
